NYC-Tunneltaxi2

I've driven through the Lincoln Tunnel in Manhatten tons of times but never tried to shoot photos while traveling in it. So, as a passenger, I leaned out the window and shot these fast-motion images with my digital camera. They really capture the sense of speed and the urgency of transportation that occurs constantly in this amazing NYC, underwater tunnel. This photo was featured in the on-line art culture magazine, Zingology (late winter, 2009).

Some were smashed open and I found the image of the "guts" to be fascinating....the seeds, pulp, insects...nature's innards!

Keep Coney Weird! (c)2007

I'm a HUGE fan of Coney Island and their annual Mermaid Parade. Sadly the powers that be are demolishing much of this historical landmark that is the Boardwalk and for the last few years, the focus of the parade has been to protest this. People from all walks of life participate in the parade and speak their minds in a creative, powerful, yet peaceful way!

The place has an historical yet eerie atmosphere...we know that here, many people who were unjustly killed, are buried...sometimes near their accusers!
I wanted to give this digital photo the dark, mysterious feel of this place.

Although the photo was shot in broad daylight, I wanted to give it a darker, more ominous feeling. I also felt that it should have a lonely mood to accompany the solitary tombstone.

I love the abstract patters the clean lines of the skyscrapers and street signs create. To enhance the vibrancy of the city, I intensified the colors in this shot and made the sky more turbulent. This photo was featured as the postcard image for a juried show in central NJ (winter 2008).

The old-school, colorful posters and wall paintings make you feel like you've been transported inside a huge funhouse! I even had the privilege of participating in an artshow/performance here in 2008. I loved that this "Freakshow cat" was on a little stage-like area in front of a sign saying "Real PEOPLE alive on stage!"

During the Annual Mermaid Parade,
the people outside look just as wild as those inside. Here, one of the show's amazing characters mugs for my camera as he catches me taking his photo.

It also shows the contrast between the dead leaves & vines to their living, colorful counterparts.

Decorated entirely in human bones by a monk/sculptor several hundred years ago, this shot shows the main altar in the center of the church. Life, death and mortality are all interwoven together in this space.

Originally shot during the daytime in bright sunlight, the computer effects allowed me to give the image a Gothic, night-time, moonlit appearance. The sculpture is transformed from a classic Mary figure to a praying Goddess image.

The inside of this ancient church is decorated in human bones of the thousands that desired to spend eternity in this sacred ground. This computer-enhanced digital photo was taken of the central chandelier, composed of EVERY type of bone in the human body! I added the spiritual and astrological symbols, and created the swirl effect, to heighten the magical, mysterious qualities of the image.

The "frosty" effect was created by computer-enhancing an in-camera double exposure. I wanted it to have a winter-y, icy feel. The patterns that the branches form look like frost and create a lace-like image.
